Urchin Q and A: Banner Referrals

Question:

Suppose that there is some banner ad say(abc.swf) on www.abc.com/jsp/bannerpage.jsppointing to an external website www.pqr.com. And the user uses four different browsers say Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and Safari.

When users clicks on the banner ad using the above one of the four browsers, the referral report displays the following:

www.abc.com/jsp/bannerpage.jsp 3(This count increments for Firefox, Opera, and Safari)

www.abc.com/jsp/abc.swf 1(This count only increments for Internet Explorer.)

Why does the Urchin update the count for 'www.abc.com/jsp/abc.swf' on IE and count for 'www.abc.com/jsp/bannerpage.jsp' on Firefox,Opera and Safari?

Answer:

This is due to browser compatibility and how they are configured to handle various elements. The gist of this is that no interaction with certain elements are initially allowed until the user has enabled the element by clicking it or tabbing to it and then pressing spacebar or enter.
