Question:
We have encountered an issue with the visit count. We have a load balanced network with two web servers. I have enabled the "Parallel log processing" option in setting up the. In comparison with our current statistics package the "Pageviews" in "Content Optimisation/Content Performance/ Top content" are very close (We were able to clean up bots, internal hits, etc, a little better with Urchin). However the visits are roughly double the number recorded in LiveSTATS. It's looking like the same visit is being counted more than once as the visitor hits a different web server on another page request. I've been through all the settings I can find and cannot see a reason for this. Any recommendations on how to test the validity of these figures?
Answer:
When Parallel Log Processing is enabled, Urchin opens all of the log files at once and reads them in a rotating fashion, one section at a time, each section corresponding to 15 minutes of log activity.
How the Urchin Traffic Monitor (UTM) Workshttps://secure.urchin.com/helpwiki/How_the_Urchin_Traffic_Monitor_%28UTM29_Works
Basically, they need to use UTM tracking method.
